Is Paintless Dent Repair cheaper than collision or body repair?

Can Paintless Dent Repair be a do it yourself task?
It is highly advised not to repair the dents on your own, unless you happen to be a trained PDR technician. It is possible you might make the damage even worse than it was before by accidentally chipping paint or causing the dent size to increase.
